dimwitted creation of science

Hello there! I'm Emmalyn, but I also go by Emma. I love making all sorts of things.

This is my main blog, and is occasionally NSFW. Current obsessions include OUAT, Mass Effect, Megamind, Portal, Homestuck, cosplaying, feminism, gender issues, and other topics.

Also, this is a safe, sex-positive, and LGBTQ-/trans*-friendly space. Feel free to make yourself at home, and do send me an ask if you want to share something (or if you just want to ask me about my ships). ;D

Eeeeeek!  Emmalyn ordered this fabric so long ago I worried it hadn’t worked!  She went down the DIY route and has done an amazing job - all links and such below in her excellent description!

Hey guys! Sorry for the dash-stretching photos, but this is my 4,000th post and I just love how these came out, so I had to share. :D I’ve been working on these 2 reversible hoodies (so, really, 4 hoodies altogether) for months, between other projects.

The designs are by a super sweet gal named Retropopsugar (Tumblr/website), who put the patterns up on Spoonflower. Then I bought the organic cotton knit fabric from SF, cut out the pieces, and assembled them myself. They’re really soft and surprisingly warm, and RPS’s tutorial videos really helped with all the sewing. (They weren’t difficult to put together, just time-consuming! I’d say it’s an early intermediate sewing level, mostly because of the sleeves. And just fyi, I used two spools—around 300 yards—of charcoal-gray thread for these.)

My hoodie is reversible Tali/Thane in a women’s medium (I just love the crest detail), and Gavin’s is Garrus/Mordin in a men’s large (with a different crest for Garrus, of course). I had to shorten my hoodie a little because the side seams on Tali’s hoodie didn’t match up perfectly—I just matched the seam lines using a little gathering stitch, then took in the 1” of excess fabric from the bottom of Thane’s side of the hoodie. It’s really not noticeable.

In case you don’t have time to watch the videos, or if you just want to know how much work one of these hoodies takes, I made a text tutorial from RPS’s videos (and added some details of my own). Do let me know if you have any questions or comments, and you can contact Retropopsugar herself here! Thanks for looking. c:

P.S.: Gavin is my lovely model.

Reblogging because Retropopsugar is awesome and is redesigning the hoodies to fix the slight scaling errors I mentioned!

Also it is 95 degrees out today (and it was when we took these photos, too). SADNESS.
